WESTLAND WAPITI K1376 THIS AIRCRAFT WAS FLOWN ON OCTOBER 14, 1934 BY TIM CARR-ELLISON. A PIECE OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS SEEN TO FALL OFF AND CARR-ELLISON FORCE LANDED THE WAPITI ON USWORTH AIRFIELD. CARR-ELLISON WAS UNINJURED.

THEODORE RALPH TATE (TIM) CARR-ELLISON RESIGNED HIS COMMISSION WITH THE AAF, DECEMBER 13, 1937 AND ACCEPTED A SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION WITH THE RAF THE FOLLOWING DAY: HE WAS THEN POSTED TO 54 SQUADRON. HIS GLADIATOR FLEW INTO RISING GROUND, JANUARY 28, 1939 AND HE DIED OF HIS INJURIES, JANUARY 30, 1939. HE WAS BURIED IN THE FAMILY (TATE) VAULT WITHIN THE RUINS OF BRAINSHAUGH MONASTERY, A MILE FROM HIS HOME AT GUYZANCE, NORTHUMBERLAND.

HAWKER DEMON K5686 SHOWING THE SQUADRON BADGE AFTER JOINING FIGHTER COMMAND. THE SQUADRON IS QUOTED AS HAVING NO MOTTO: THE SQUADRON WANTED THE WORD 'UP' THE HERALDIC OFFICE SAID NO. AFTER AN EXCHANGE OF CORRESPONDENCE, RUNCIMAN DECIDED TO HAVE NOTHING. HOWEVER, THE SQUADRON EMBLEM WAS PAINTED IN THE FIGHTER COMMAND SPEARHEAD POINTING 'UP'. IT REMAINED THE ONLY DEMON SQUADRON TO CARRY THE DEVICE IN THIS WAY.

WILLIAM ERNEST GORE FROM MIDDLESBOROUGH, AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER WITH REYROLLE RESEARCH, WAS TO REMAIN WITH 607 SQUADRON THROUGHOUT THE BATTLE OF FRANCE UNTIL POSTED MIA, SEPTEMBER 28. 1940.

Harry Peter Radcliffe 4th left, was the second son of Sir Everard Joseph 5th Baron Radcliffe of Richmond, Yorkshire. On 607 Squadron, Harry, had a penchant for getting lost while on cross-country flights. While practising air fighting tactics, he collided with the Gladiator of Alan Glover: October 29, 1939. Glover was killed Harry Radcliffe was uninjured. In France, Harry Radcliffe was practising air fighting with Nigel Graeme, march 24, 1940. The two Gladiators collided and both pilots were killed. They were buried side by side in Douai Municipal Cemetery, France: Radcliffe grave 11, Graeme grave 12.
